This Concert Is Also Becoming a Movie

The biggest distinction is what happens beyond the arena. The December 12 performance is scheduled to be filmed for Janet Jackson: Control 40 — The Airtab Music Movie, a production from Airtab Music directed by filmmaker Leslie Small.

According to the official announcement, the production will combine a cinematic multi-camera presentation of the live show with behind-the-scenes access. The project is being positioned for a global theatrical release followed by distribution on major streaming platforms.

That means the Sunrise audience will not simply be attending a concert. Fans will be inside the performance being documented for the finished film, giving this particular South Florida date a role that extends well beyond one night.

Why Control Is at the Center of the Night

Released in 1986, Control marked a defining point in Jackson’s career and produced songs including “What Have You Done for Me Lately,” “Nasty,” “When I Think of You” and the title track. The new concert event arrives four decades later as an anniversary celebration of that era.

The show is not being presented as a performance of only one album. Amerant Bank Arena says the production will also celebrate Jackson’s wider catalog, extending from Control and Rhythm Nation 1814 through later hits from across her career.

A Concert Designed Differently From a Typical Tour Stop

The filming component is shaping the arena experience itself. Organizers are promoting a specially designed VIP floor with reserved premium seating, tables, high-top seating and access to select hospitality areas.

Because the show is being captured as a filmed production, fans should also expect a concert environment built around cameras and production needs. Exact staging details have not been announced, so it is better to treat the filming setup as part of the event rather than assume how it will affect individual seats or sightlines.

Before You Head to Amerant Bank Arena

  • The show is scheduled to begin at 8 p.m. on Saturday, December 12.
  • The arena says doors generally open 60–90 minutes before the ticketed show time, although that can change.
  • SeatGeek is the official ticketing partner for Amerant Bank Arena.
  • The venue is located at 1 Panther Parkway in Sunrise, across from Sawgrass Mills.
  • Because this is a filmed concert, check the official event page before leaving for any event-specific arrival or production instructions.

Why the Sunrise Date Stands Out

South Florida is not simply hosting an anniversary concert. Amerant Bank Arena is the location selected to capture the performance that will become the Control 40 concert movie.

That gives the December show a different kind of significance: the crowd, performance and atmosphere inside the Sunrise arena are intended to become part of the permanent filmed record of Jackson’s 40-year celebration of Control.

Event details and production plans can change. Check the official Amerant Bank Arena event page before attending for the latest timing, ticketing and venue information.
